On May 30, the American Cancer Society presented the NetEvents 2007 Technology Award to Ocean Road Cancer Institute (ORCI) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, for research on Burkitts lymphoma. George Van Velsor Wolf, the Society's vice chair, presented the award to Drs. Twalib Ngoma, ORCI's executive director, and Idris Kikula, ORCI's chair of the board. Deo Mtasiwa, chief medical officer of the Tanzania Ministry of Health, officiated the award ceremony. The NetEvents Technology Award is sponsored by NetEvents and provides funds to support research into treatments for Burkitts lymphoma - tropical Africa’s leading pediatric cancer. About 700 new cases of Burkitts lymphoma occur annually in Tanzanian children. Ocean Road Cancer Institute is Tanzania’s only hospital dedicated to cancer.
