After an initial cessation training, which was hosted by the American Cancer Society and the China CDC, a second training followed. This Tobacco & Cessation Conference was held on November 22-29 in Hong Kong. During the Conference, a joint Tobacco & Chinese Cessation Workshop was held in collaboration between the American Cancer Society, the China CDC, and the Hong Kong University.
The American Cancer Society sponsored 20 participants from various China CDC offices to attend this second training, which was coordinated by the Hong Kong University. As Hong Kong becomes smoke-free starting in January 2007, participants found the visits to the Hong Kong Council on Smoking and Health, as well as to the Hong Kong Health Department, especially helpful in understanding the important role that legislation plays in tobacco control. After these two cessation trainings, participants received a Cessation Consular Trainer Certification from the Hong Kong University. Both trainings were funded by the American Cancer Society and Pfizer.
