Representatives from the Korean National Cancer Center visited the Society’s National Home Office in mid-December for an information-sharing event with their counterparts at the American Cancer Society. Dr. Eun-Cheol Park, director of the Research Institute for National Cancer Control, a part of the National Cancer Center (NCC) in Korea, led the delegation. Dr. Park is responsible for supporting the policies of the South Korean government’s national cancer control program through policy research and evaluation. The scope of the national cancer control program in Korea includes primary prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and palliative care. Dr. Park was accompanied by Dr. Min-Kyung Lim of the Cancer Cohort Branch of the Research Institute, and Dr. Kui-Son Choi, who specializes in cancer prevention and early detection. The Korean delegates met with key members of the Research, Cancer Control Science, and International Affairs departments, giving them presentations on NCC events in Korea. American Cancer Society representatives reciprocated with comparative programs. Also in attendance was Seongo Kim from the Eastern Division. The Society’s Korean program is an international partnership fostered by the Eastern Division, which has pioneered cancer control outreach to Korean communities in the New York City metropolitan area. Former Eastern Division staff and the Society’s staff consultant in Korea, Sang-hee Cho, accompanied the NCC delegation on their visit.
