As announced on May 24, 2011, the American Cancer Society is currently accepting nominations for the 2012 Luther L. Terry Awards for Exemplary Leadership in Tobacco Control. Nominators have until September 2, 2011 to submit a nomination package to highlight the accomplishments of individuals or organizations actively involved in tobacco control.
We strongly encourage members of the tobacco control advocacy and research community to nominate their deserving peers and colleagues, to make sure that their efforts do not go unnoticed. Every three years, since 2000, the American Cancer Society celebrates the exceptional work of individuals and organizations that carry on Dr. Terry’s legacy and the work he began through the awards, presented during the triennial World Conference on Tobacco OR Health (WCToH). We recognize that the tobacco control community benefits from the best vantage point to identify individuals and organizations that have accomplished the most effective and inspiring work over the past few years, and the active participation of nominators is therefore essential for the American Cancer Society to succeed in rewarding the most deserving leaders in tobacco control.
As a reminder, the awards are presented in six categories: Outstanding Individual Leadership, Outstanding Organization, Outstanding Research Contribution, Exemplary Leadership by a Government Ministry, Distinguished Career, and Outstanding Community Service. Potential awardees must be nominated by another person. To nominate a candidate, please download an application from the Luther L. Terry Awards website and submit a nomination via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. The winners of the 2012 Luther L. Terry Awards will be acknowledged by a special ceremony, during the 15th WCToH, to take place in Singapore in March 2012 .
